Cyrus's research primarily focuses on biological nutrient removal (BNR) in municipal wastewater treatment. This includes researching biological treatment methods for sewage sludge-derived hydrothermal liquefaction wastewater, as well as integrating the advantages of annamox and densified activated sludge in mainstream processes at wastewater treatment plants.
