Focus: Floodplain Characterization and Modeling
This research is focused on utilizing a point cloud dataset from the StREAM Lab to estimate the depth-dependent roughness for the floodplain. Vegetation height and density were derived from this point cloud; in-stream sensors at the StREAM Lab have recorded water stage and velocity. This data can be used to calculate the roughness along the stream at varying flows to study how inundation levels are related to roughness. This information can allow for faster data collection and processing and an increased accuracy for flood prediction modeling.
