Kayleigh Canavan is a junior in BSE from Charlotte North Carolina pursuing the Biotechnology Track. In addition, she has a minor in Biomedical Engineering and is actively pursuing coursework aligning with pre-medical studies. Kayleigh hopes that her education will lead her to have a successful career working in the medical field, either as a surgeon, a doctor, or in a laboratory setting working on technology development. Kayleigh has spent the past few summers pursuing hobbies related to cosmetology and the cosmetics industry.

Kayleigh works with the Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED) Office as a Peer Leader working collaboratively with others and helps lead students in mentoring groups of incoming freshmen as they navigate the engineering experience. She assists CEED by creating relevant curricula and plans events for networking and development of students.

Additionally, Kayleigh serves as Vice President of the Undergraduate Biomedical Engineering Society where she helps lead meetings, plan events, and manage the organization as a whole. Recently, Kayleigh has joined the Dean’s Team in the College of Engineering with the hopes of sharing her love of Virginia Tech and engineering, and reinvigorating her passion for public speaking. She also makes time for her social sorority, Sigma Kappa, and is part of their internal philanthropy committee supporting five philanthropic causes, the primary of which is Alzhiemers, a cause near to her heart.

Kayleigh is incredibly grateful for the BSE department, faculty, staff, and students and cannot wait to share her love of the department with prospective students. The BSE ambassadors impacted her greatly when she started at Virginia Tech, making her college experience all the better, and she looks forward to paying it forward and being that person for other students.
