Megan McCarthy, Virginia Tech Biological Systems Engineering Ambassador

Megan McCarthy is a senior in BSE from Queenstown, Maryland with a focus in Ecological Engineering, and a minor in Green Engineering. She is passionate about storm water management, and in particular, its effects on communities and ecosystems. This past summer, Megan worked as an intern at Withers Ravenel in Charlotte, NC, a civil engineering firm based in Cary, NC. Withers Ravenel does work across North Carolina for both private clients and governmental municipalities. She worked on many types of projects at all stages of completion, including developing erosion and sediment control plans for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill using Civil3D modeling software.

At Virginia Tech, Megan is the President of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) and is a member of the Swim Club. Upon graduation, Megan hopes to use her BSE degree to make a positive impact on the environment. Megan enjoys spending her time outdoors, snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, as well as playing guitar and spending time with friends and family.

Megan is so grateful for BSE and cannot wait to share her love and excitement about the department with prospective students, and sparking their interest in BSE as well.
