Cassie Brisbin
Cassie Brisbin is a super senior originally from Charleston, SC. She is studying Biological Systems Engineering with a minor in Spanish and is on the biotechnology track. After her sophomore year, Cassie completed an internship at Nutrien in eastern North Carolina where she learned about land reclamation and water quality at the largest integrated phosphate mine and chemical plant in the world. After her junior year, she did a 6-month co-op with Anheuser Busch InBev as a Process Engineer in Williamsburg, VA. Additionally, Cassie has worked in Dr. Wright’s Plant Synthetic Biology lab conducting agricultural genetic engineering research under the guidance of graduate students and through the VT-REEL program. After graduation, Cassie hopes to either obtain a job in industry or attend graduate school, with her main interests focusing within the agricultural and environmental engineering fields.
During her time here at Virginia Tech, Cassie has served as the American Society of Agricultural & Biological Engineers (ASABE) Executive Board Liaison and now currently as the co-Vice President. She is also a member of the VT Sailing Club and occasionally competes in regattas along the East Coast.
Once she joined BSE, Cassie knew she was in the right place. The department’s small size, friendly faculty, amazing research and traveling opportunities, and strong sense of community created a truly unique college experience for her. Now, she wants to be able to give back to BSE and guide younger students through their journey.
