Evelyn Tipper
Evelyn is a senior in Biological Systems Engineering from Pittsburgh, PA. She is on the Ecological Engineering path with a minor in Environmental Science. She is interested in stormwater management, water quality, and green infrastructure. After graduation, she hopes to use her degree to make a difference in the local watersheds of communities.
This past summer, Evelyn worked as an Environmental Engineering Intern in the Water Services Group at CDM Smith, a nationwide consulting company. She worked on a variety of projects, from a stormwater basin repair to lead service line replacement planning. Her favorite part was gaining experience with ArcGIS and learning about municipal stormwater programs.
During the school year, Evelyn works at the Carey Lab at Virginia Tech, a freshwater ecology lab that monitors several drinking water reservoirs in the New River Valley. As a research assistant, she helps with field work, water quality monitoring, and data organization. She also gets to spend a lot of time in a boat! Outside of academics, Evelyn is an active member of the Virginia Tech Club Cross Country/Track & Field team, serving as treasurer and competing with the club. You can often find her running – or biking –around Blacksburg year-round.
As a BSE Ambassador, Evelyn hopes to convey her love of the major and the community that she has found in the department to prospective students and spark their interest in BSE.
