Sarah Leach
Hi! My name is Sarah Leach, and I am a rising senior in the Biological Systems Engineering department. I am currently doing undergraduate research with Dr. Czuba. I am planning on continuing my research with him by completing the BSE accelerated master’s program here at Virginia Tech. I work with hydrology and sediment.
I am a transfer student from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I knew nothing about BSE when I transferred but luckily with the programs amazing ambassadors, I was able to find this unique and special program. As a transfer student it was overwhelming at times. I had to get a feel for a new school, a new program, and new academic expectations. As a mentor I hope to use all that I learned from my transition to help new students feel more comfortable and confident at the beginning of their journey in the BSE department.
A little bit about me: I spent the first four years of college competing as a NCAA Division I Cross Country and Track athlete. I am retired now but will be helping with the Run Club here at Virginia Tech. I am a first-time dog mom! I recently rescued a golden retriever, and he is my whole entire world. His name is Maverick, which comes from my favorite movie. I am a huge “Swiftie” and could and will talk for hours about Taylor Swift. She has inspired me to become a singer/songwriter, which is what I do in most of my free time. If I am not in the studio, taking my dog to the park, or running, I am at home doing schoolwork. I love to learn and love learning about water and the environment!
I cannot wait to share my time as a BSE mentor. I am very excited to meet everyone and help as much as possible!
