Nathan Michaelson is a senior in BSE from Charlotte Court House, Virginia. He is currently following the Ecological Engineering track and pursuing a minor in wetland science. After graduation, he plans to obtain a master’s degree in the department and eventually work in stream restoration.
As a BSE mentor, he hopes to share advice and experience on classes, extracurriculars, research, and internships with incoming students. He has been incredibly happy with his choice of major and is passionate about the work done in the department. He is looking forward to sharing this enthusiasm as a mentor.
This previous summer, Nathan had the opportunity to work as a water resources engineering intern for Dewberry. With this position, he assisted the team with dam safety inspections, floodplain mapping, sewer system profiles, and other tasks.
Throughout his time at Virginia Tech, Nathan has been active in a number of clubs and organizations. He has been active in Wesley at Virginia Tech, American Water Resources Association, and 209 Marketplace food pantry. In addition, he has been assisting with research in the Czuba Lab. In this lab, he has had the opportunity to conduct field work, run HEC-RAS models, and map river features in ArcGIS.
In his free time, Nathan enjoys hiking, watching sports, fishing, and trivia.
